BWLAP New Laws Training
Each fall, BWLAP travels around
the state doing "New Laws" training. The training
focuses on the law changes that have occurred in the prior year
that might have an impact on battered women and their children.
The training includes information on Minnesota State legislative
changes, Minnesota Court of Appeals decisions, Minnesota's tribal
court changes, immigration policy changes and federal legislative
changes.
BWLAP produces a summary of new laws and a case law update.
These materials are used as the basis for the training and are
available upon request.
Trainings are held at six different locations in northeastern, northwestern, central, southeastern, southwestern, and metro area of Minnesota. The training is for two days. The new laws portion of the training is only one day long and the other day is used for a basic legal advocacy training. This basic legal advocacy training focused on Orders for Protection in civil court, criminal court prosecution and defense issues, and basic family law actions.
These trainings are intended for battered women's advocates
but are open to anyone who wants to attend. The training locations
and agenda are set in late spring each year.
